What Would Sappho Say?
Lectori Salutem! or L.S. (Greetings to the Reader!)
By now everyone is keenly aware of the incredible need going in the small Caribbean country of Haiti. The 7.0 on the Richter scale earthquake shook the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere to its core on Tuesday, January 12, 2010. This is certainly the largest disaster so close to American soil in quite some time and while there seems to be a huge gap in getting the initial supplies of basic food and water, the US is sending through Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton "our long-term, unwavering support, solidarity and sympathies" and that all of its resources our being deployed now to include launching a Naval Hospital ship that will not arrive in Port-au-Prince even at top speed until next Thursday.
With the temperatures rising into the 80’s, the decaying bodies are becoming a persistent problem so mass graves are beginning to be built but as the lack of supplies still reaches few, the people are becoming desperate. Food and Water are on the ground in abundance but no one is taking charge od the rescue effort and how to get these supplies to the people in a timely manner!
The effort to get aid to the victims has been stymied by blocked roads, congestion at the airport, limited equipment and other obstacles. U.N. peacekeepers patrolling the capital said popular anger was rising, warning aid convoys to add security to guard against looting.
The U.S. military has several hundred personnel on the ground, including more than 100 troops from the U.S. 82nd Airborne Division. Hundreds of sailors, meanwhile, pulled into Port-au-Prince harbor on the aircraft carrier USS Carl Vinson.
Supposedly by tomorrow, an 82nd Airborne rapid response unit will be handing out food, water and medical supplies from two cargo pallets outside the airport, a helicopter lifted off with water to distribute, and a reconnaissance chopper went searching for drop zones around the capital to move out more aid. Soldiers said they expected more supplies later in the day. The Haitian government estimates the fatalities at 140,000 people and nearly 300,000 homes destroyed which is 10% of the Haitian population.
If you have clothes that can be of help or any other goods that would be helpful to the Haitian people that you would like to donate to this disaster relief, please contact the Greater Houston Area Red Cross at (713) 526-8300 or (866) 526-8300 and ask for the nearest drop off location. Anything you have will be gratefully appreciated as this is a long-term reconciliation for this country and all sorts of supplies will be needed in the months ahead.
On to a word about our favorite Christian brother, Mr. Pat Robertson. Now I won’t waste my breath calling him names as he who has several mouths simply cannot hear, but I will fill you in on a few of his other asinine quotes so you can truly see his evil little pea brain at work. OK, so I called him a few names. These are all lessons he learned from the bible and he is the LEADER of the Christian Coalition. They are the ones who should be doing the apologizing and turning the channel!!! Let’s see, which quotes to pick.
1. "Just like what Nazi Germany did to the Jews, so liberal America is now doing to the evangelical Christians. It's no different. It is the same thing. It is happening all over again. It is the Democratic Congress, the liberal-based media and the homosexuals who want to destroy the Christians. Wholesale abuse and discrimination and the worst bigotry directed toward any group in America today. More terrible than anything suffered by any minority in history."
2. "I would warn Orlando that you're right in the way of some serious hurricanes, and I don't think I'd be waving those flags in God's face if I were you, This is not a message of hate -- this is a message of redemption. But a condition like this will bring about the destruction of your nation. It'll bring about terrorist bombs; it'll bring earthquakes, tornadoes, and possibly a meteor." – on GAY DAYS at Disney World
3. "The feminist agenda is not about equal rights for women. It is about a socialist, anti-family political movement that encourages women to leave their husbands, kill their children, practice witchcraft, destroy capitalism and become lesbians."
4. "I know this is painful for the ladies to hear, but if you get married, you have accepted the headship of a man, your husband. Christ is the head of the household and the husband is the head of the wife, and that's the way it is, period."
5. "I'd like to say to the good citizens of Dover: If there is a disaster in your area, don't turn to God, you just rejected him from your city. And don't wonder why he hasn't helped you when problems begin, if they begin. I'm not saying they will, but if they do, just remember, you just voted God out of your city. And if that's the case, don't ask for his help because he might not be there." --Pat Robertson, after the city of Dover, Pennsylvania voted to boot the current school board, which instituted an intelligent design policy that led to a federal trial AND THERE ARE SO MANY MORE.....
And last but certainly not least for anyone who has been under a rock and not read his remarks on Haiti,
"It may be a blessing in disguise. ... Something happened a long time ago in Haiti, and people might not want to talk about it. Haitians were originally under the heel of the French. You know, Napoleon the third, or whatever. And they got together and swore a pact to the devil. They said, we will serve you if you will get us free from the French. True story. And so, the devil said, okay it's a deal. Ever since they have been cursed by one thing after the other." –Pat Robertson, on the earthquake in Haiti that destroyed the capital and killed tens of thousands of people, Jan. 13, 2010
My, my, those Christians that follow him and watch his beloved 700 Club sure must be stupid, illiterate as they have never truly read the New Testament, and just plain deaf, dumb, and blind following someone who is shouting the loudest and therefore sending vibrations there way so they must follow. Oh to be one of them would be so indefensible. I’d love to meet him on a debate stage!
Well, that’s it. Give to the Red Cross generously both concretely and monetarily.
Much Love.

MUSIC OF THE DAY
Today’s songs go out to the Haitian people and r\to all of us who are thinking of them, praying for them, and throwing our hearts in their direction. The first song is a simple, repetitive song by the great Joan Baez. We Shall Overcome is the song and there is a line that says “I do believe” and I do as the human spirit has an amazing resilience. The second one is John Lennon’s Imagine as we can think to a future where these things never happen.

QUOTE OF THE DAY
When you hold resentment toward another, you are bound to that person or condition by an emotional link that is stronger than steel. Forgiveness is the only way to dissolve that link and get free.

I've heard you speak of the day you decide life is not worth living and you're going to end it all and the list of people you're taking with you. Can I assume he is high on the list of priorities of your spree killings before suicide by cop?

Thanks for your comments today. No need for a Sapphic love poem, your thoughts are much more useful to me. :)
