What Would Sappho Say?
Lectori Salutem! or L.S. (Greetings to the Reader!)
By now everyone is keenly aware of the incredible need going in the small Caribbean country of Haiti. The 7.0 on the Richter scale earthquake shook the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere to its core on Tuesday, January 12, 2010. This is certainly the largest disaster so close to American soil in quite some time and while there seems to be a huge gap in getting the initial supplies of basic food and water, the US is sending through Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton "our long-term, unwavering support, solidarity and sympathies" and that all of its resources our being deployed now to include launching a Naval Hospital ship that will not arrive in Port-au-Prince even at top speed until next Thursday.
With the temperatures rising into the 80’s, the decaying bodies are becoming a persistent problem so mass graves are beginning to be built but as the lack of supplies still reaches few, the people are becoming desperate. Food and Water are on the ground in abundance but no one is taking charge od the rescue effort and how to get these supplies to the people in a timely manner!

Sappho Speaks: The Third Sex
What Would Sappho Say?
Lectori Salutem! or L.S. (Greetings to the Reader!)
This is a bit of a far out blog so stay with me as it is a baseless theory I made up in hopes that there are more people out there like me or at least looking for the same thing I am looking for. I just happen to have some followers who like my concept so I thought I'd send it out into the universe. There are those of us who believe in three sexes: a man, a woman, and a THIRD SEX to be defined in these pages. We all know a woman in this day and age to be a many and varied thing: gay, bisexual and straight, from the boardroom to the mailroom, from security in her relationships to clinging to the one she knows she should have let go long ago. Most women are usually not the aggressors in their relationships, and there is seldom equality in relationships on all levels, just as women currently have equal opportunities to rise and live self-determining lives, but it seems that the reality of that comes to fruition less than what the statement provides. Lingering acculturations continue to hobble many women within themselves and from society that floods them with mixed messages and expectations.
To prove my point, fifty-seven percent of college degrees are now earned by women. They are excelling in all fields of employment including the military, math and science, although still in minority numbers. Why is that? Are women allowing this to continue to occur or is it men who continue to control the glass ceiling? In companies where women are in control the statistic doesn't change much either. Why do you think this is? One of the reasons may be that women are still referred to even in Webster's Thesaurus as the following: female, lady, dame, gentlewoman, madam, madame, sen ora, beauty, belle, chick [slang], damsel, doll, gal, ingenue, lass, lassie, mademoiselle, maid, maiden, miss, senorita - five of which would seem complimentary in this country, the other four in other countries and the rest are crass where ever you may be and this is in 2009 and only one is considered slang.

Sappho Speaks: Plans For The Future
What Would Sappho Say?
Lectori Salutem! or L.S. (Greetings to the Reader!)
I think I have a glimpse into the world of today's young and even those who grew up and are in adulthood now still addicted to their Play Stations or Nintendos and now the Wii and XBOX 360. As I said, I have the last one listed for the purpose of playing only one game thus far and it has been hard to pull myself away from it at night to do my actual job and write this blog, but I promise to join a support group and do better. I'm sure by now there is a Gamers Anonymous for Addicts who can't put their joysticks or in my case, my drumsticks or plastic Fender Stratocaster down and move away from the TV. I have Rock Band 2, The Beatles Rock Band, and Band Hero so far and they have been enough to keep me incredibly busy for an hour or two each night. I try to limit myself to just that but sometimes I look at the clock and well... let's just say time fly's when you are having fun.

Sappho Speaks: “Marriage” Is A Word That Belongs To Everyone
What Would Sappho Say?
Lectori Salutem! or L.S. (Greetings to the Reader!)
It appears in The Real History Of Marriage: Part One there is one fact I missed that a Catholic Conservative pointed out to me in the comments section and that was just how generous in spirit some can be in allowing us to have our civil unions but not the term marriage itself. That term is reserved only for those who believe in Christ and the sacrament of marriage.
Oh no wait, she went so far as to say straight people who did not marry in a church should not be allowed to use the term marriage either, so gay people should feel a little better, this wasn’t blatant discrimination. Somehow I doubted she cared about civil unions among heterosexuals before gay people wanted to get married!!! The HYPOCRISY was coming out in every word!
